Welcome to Lenham Repair Shop
Your community hub dedicated to sustainable repairs and reuse
Our Community Repair Hub
A dedicated space where community members come together to repair, refurbish, and repurpose items, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
Our Mission
We aim to shift the focus from recycling everything to repairing, reusing, and restoring items, fostering a culture of sustainability and community support.
Recycling is the last thing we do - and we only do that when something is beyond economical repair (BER) and after we've stripped it of all it's useful parts.
The current recycling methodology of Smash it and Melt it (Mash & Melt) simply doesn't work for things like plastics and lithium ion batteries.
And even for metals and glass it's uneconomical and uses huge amounts of energy.

Founded in response to local environmental concerns, our hub has grown into a vital resource for sustainable living and community engagement.
Our 6Rs framework
Lenham Repairhop has developed a repair methodology called the 6Rs.
1. Repair
- Repair: Identifying and fixing a specific fault to return an item to fully working order with full testing.
This involves diagnostic, component-level intervention - such as replacing a blown capacitor on a circuit board or physically welding cracked structural materials - concluding with rigorous safety and functional testing.
2. Repurpose
- Repurpose: Finding a completely newfunction for an object or material without melting it down (e.g., turning an old washing machine drum into a fire pit). Any remaining components will be stripped and banked or sorted into specific recycling streams.
Repurposing effectively meets the goal of reducing the overall recycling stream effort.
3. Refurbish
- Refurbish: Cleaning, updating, and aesthetically improving an item to bring it back to a like-new state (e.g., upgrading a laptop's RAM and hard drive while cleaning the casing).
4. Restore
- Restore: Bringing historic, worn, or degraded items back to their original specification and glory, preserving the craftsmanship and materials and obtaining the original look and feel.
5. Re-engineer
Re-engineer: We support re-engineering and engineer-refurb techniques to find creative solutions for repairing or repurposing diverse items.
Our system is designed to identify FOFs (Frequently Occuring Fixes) and uses AI to identify or design replacement components to eliminate the recurring FOF.
6. Re-use
- Re-use: If something is donated working - then the repair shop will simply run a series of tests to confirm it functions correctly and if 100% safe.
The item is then passed directly to another user or sold without needing any repair work. (e.g., donation to charities or sold through online marketplaces)

Our Core Principles
Guided by a commitment to sustainability, community empowerment, and waste reduction, we prioritize repair and reuse over recycling whenever possible.
Team Mission
Our team is dedicated to repairing items with care and precision, emphasizing quality workmanship and sustainable methods. We believe that many items can be restored to their full functionality through skillful intervention, reducing waste and conserving resources.
By prioritizing repair over replacement, we help extend the lifespan of everyday objects and promote a more mindful approach to consumption.
Community
Our hub fosters a sense of community by providing free repair services and encouraging collaborative problem-solving and skill sharing.
This approach empowers individuals and strengthens local bonds by promoting sustainable practices and mutual support.
We believe that sharing knowledge and fostering a culture of repair can inspire lasting change and reduce environmental impact at the grassroots level.
